How do you earn two high school diplomas?
Students stay at their Turkish high school and take additional courses online at a US high school. The US school reviews their transcript and decides which credits meet its graduation requirements. Students who complete both schools’ requirements receive a diploma from each.

How the credits fit together
A student’s courses in Türkiye lead to their Turkish diploma. Some of those same courses may count toward graduation at the US school. The school’s academic team reviews the official transcript before drawing up the list of remaining courses.
Where the second diploma fits
- Students can take the US courses from Türkiye without moving abroad.
- This is a secondary school program. University double degrees and double majors have different purposes and entry requirements.
- Students keep their Turkish diploma for university applications in Türkiye. Article 12(3) of the Ministry of National Education’s equivalency regulation excludes qualifications earned wholly or partly by distance education from the equivalency process.
- The diploma must come from the diploma-granting school. Verify the school and its accreditation before enrolling.
Who might benefit?
For students considering university abroad, a US transcript, GPA and diploma give admissions officers another record of their work. Courses can also offer academic English practice and access to AP subjects. Weigh those benefits against the extra time, cost and language demands in our guide to the benefits and limitations.
Four terms to know
- Transcript review
- The US school checks the student’s official grades and courses. The review determines the student’s individual plan.
- Transfer credit
- A previous course accepted toward US graduation. At the Academy its grade does not enter the Academy GPA.
- Minimum Academy credit
- The partnered dual diploma requires at least 5.5 credits at the Academy and at least 25% of courses through the Academy.
- Asynchronous course
- Work follows weekly deadlines without a fixed daily class time. Students can ask the teacher for help and attend office hours.
A program available in Türkiye
VHS Learning Academy is operated by VHS Learning, a nonprofit founded in 1996 with a US Department of Education grant. Its partner dual diploma requires 22 credits in total. The Academy’s general FAQ describes a separate six-credit rule for transfer students. Scholege handles enrollment in Türkiye. The program website includes an example graduation plan.
