What can a second high school diploma offer?
A second diploma can document a student’s work in an English-language US curriculum. Whether it is a useful addition depends on where the student wants to study, their English and how many hours they can give to another school.

What students can gain
A transcript familiar to US universities
Students can submit their Academy transcript, GPA and diploma alongside their Turkish school records. Admissions offices can use the school profile to interpret grades and course levels.
Academic English
Students read sources, contribute to written discussions with international classmates, research questions and respond to teacher feedback in English.
Advanced courses and electives
The 2026–2027 profile lists 31 courses for AP credit. Eligible students can explore Honors and AP courses as well as electives such as psychology, computing or journalism. Universities set their own policies on credit or placement for AP exam results.
Independent study
Weekly deadlines give students practice scheduling their own work. Regular feedback and office hours provide opportunities to ask for help.
College athletics
Students interested in NCAA athletics should check the school’s approved core courses and their own eligibility with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Limits to keep in mind
- The Turkish diploma remains the qualification students use for the domestic university route. Turkish regulations exclude distance-learning diplomas from equivalency.
- Universities consider academic history, course rigor, essays, references and any required test results. The additional diploma does not guarantee admission or an English test waiver.
- US assignments add to Turkish schoolwork and YKS preparation. Families also need to budget for tuition and any separate exam or document fees.
Which situation fits yours?
| Situation | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Considering university abroad | Check how prospective universities evaluate US transcripts and AP results. |
| Keeping both YKS and overseas options open | Starting early can spread courses across several years. |
| Planning only for university in Türkiye | The English practice or electives may appeal, but a second diploma adds no domestic entry qualification. |
| Still building academic English | Focus on reading and writing readiness before adding academic courses. |
| In Grade 12 and preparing for YKS | Check the weekly load before making a commitment. |
What do the fees cover?
Ask for a written breakdown of courses, AP exams, transcripts, shipping and graduation costs. Take the 12-question checklist to your enrollment meeting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still take the YKS?
Yes. Students remain at their Turkish high school and follow the usual university entrance route. The main consideration is time for additional schoolwork.
Does the diploma guarantee university admission?
No. Each university decides whom to admit and which academic records, tests and supporting documents to consider.
Who is most likely to benefit?
Students considering university abroad who can study in English and can sustain the extra workload may find the US transcript and course options valuable.
